How can an Industry Tour help me choose a career?

A career is like a pair of pants.

That might sound kind of silly, but it's true. You wouldn't buy a pair of pants without trying them on would you? So why would you jump into a career without "trying it on"? (I mean... you can but if a career doesn't fit it's a lot harder to return...)

There are so many different kinds of jobs and careers out there. It can be hard to figure out which one is the best for you. That's why it's important to engage with a career path early on. Industry tours are a great way to weed out the bad jobs from the good.

Taking a tour of a company gives you a better idea of what a job might look like day-to-day. Is it too quiet? Too loud? Will you be working in a team or alone? These are important things to think about before making a decision. When you tour a location, you get to see for yourself what that world looks like and how you might (or might not) fit in with the environment.

What is an Industry Tour?

An industry tour is an activity that brings students like you to a workplace to learn more about a company, see employees in their normal work routines, and ask them questions. During a tour, employees will talk about the what tools they use everyday and the skills they need to be good at their jobs. You might be surprised by what a certain job looks like on a daily basis!
